THE CITY GUARDS.
On Wednesday afternoon the above corps fired the first competition for Lieut McKenzie’s trophy, the conditions being 10 shots with two optional sighters at 200 yards. The weather was decidedly damp, a drizzling rain falling all afternoon, and the light bad, but despite this some very good shooting was done, seven competitors out of the fourteen averaging inners or over. The best score on the target was that of the redoubtable Sergt Wills, whose diagram I append, and the highest number of points secured by Lieut McKenzie with 44. Sergt Murphy, the worthy secretary of the shooting committee, fulfilled the duties attached to his office to the satisfaction of everybody, and the competition justified the confidence placed in the handicappers. The following were the best scores : h’cap score Lieut. McKenzie 3 44 Sergt. Wills scr. 43 Bugler Glennie 2 43 Corp. Irving 2 43 Col-Sergt.Crawford 3 43 Corp. Francis 4 43 Priv. Robinson 2 42 Oapt.
