SOUTHERN CROSS Competition. The success which has attended our previous competitions encourages us to continue them, and we have much pleasure in announcing the third of our Competitions for the Young People The new trial of ingenuity will be somewhat novel, will afford instruction and amusement, and doubtless prove a considerable assistance to the ‘dominie* in securing creditable passes at the annual examination. We will give a book to each of the two boys or girls who send us in by 29th June the largest list of words which they can compile from the letters contained in the word “ FORMIDABLE.” The following conditions must be observed : 1. No letter must be used twice in any one word. 2. No proper names must be used. 3. No plural form of a singular already used will be allowed. 4. No foreign, slang, or coined words must be used. 5. Age of competitor must not exceed 16 years. 6. Any words violating these rules will be struck out, and five infringements will disqualify the whole list. 6. Each list of words must be accompanied by the subjoined Coupon from the “ Southern Cross ” of following dates : June 11, June 18, or June 25, and by a certificate from a parent, guardian, or teacher that no assistance has been given. 8. Lists to be sent to “ Fairfield,” Southern Cross ” office, Bsk street, Invercargill, not later than Wednesday, 29th June. COUPON SOUTHERN CROSS EDUCATIONAL COMPETITION No. 2—“ FORMIDABLE.” 1.
