L.M. —To make a knitted knee-cap. Cast on 47 stitches. Ist rcw—plain, '.2nd row —Purl 6, knit 35, purl 6. 3rd row —plain. 4th row —plain. -sth row—purl 6, knit 35, purl 6. 6th row —plain. Repeat these six rows three times. 25th low —knit 23, increase one by picking up the thread that is directly under the next stitch, and knitting it, knit 24. 26th row —purl 6, knit 17, increase 1, knit 19, purl 6. :27th row —knit 23, increase 1, knit 26., Now continue thus—Always increase after the 23rd stitch, and, keeping the edge in notches till you have 19 notches done; then knit six lows without any increase, and henceforward in every row knit two together after knitting the 23rd stitch, so as to decrease in the same ratio as you before increased, and when 47 stitches are attained knit 24 rows thereon to match the beginning and cast off. Sew the cast off to the cast on stitches, and the kneecap is complete.
