Bluff Notes.

The installation of Bro. E, Johnson, as Worshipful Master of Lodge Fortitude, took place on the 24th May, R.W., Bro R. Bree, G.S., being Installing Master. Several brethren from other lodges were present. The installation was followed by a social. The annual meeting of the Bluff Christian Endeavour Society was held on the 25th in the Methodist church. The attendance was very good. The Rev John Nixon presided and addresses were given by the Rev. Mr McLaren (Bluff), Mr tHllman (Greenhills), Miss Walker and Mr S. E. Ferguson (Invercargill), Mr Fraser and others, Mr Stott playing the auto-harp to the company’s enjoyment. The report showed an increase in members ; missions were helped during the year ; and a junior society had been formed and was doing good work. During the evening Mrs Creagh sang a solo. Refreshments were handed round and the usual vote of thanks closed a successful meeting. , The cutter Water Lily arrived from Pegasus on Friday, 27th ult., bringing Mr G. Williamson of Messrs Williamson and Nevill, also a good freight of fish The firm have just erected a freezer at Pegasus, by which they anticipate to largely add to the fish trade of the port. They have purchased a steamer to ply between Bluff and Stewart Island. Rumour has it that a certain gentleman here has largely speculated in potatoes, hoping thereby to make a ‘ rise.’ Mr Knuckey, of Invercargill, is the successful tenderer for the new Presbyterian manse. The members of the church have been very active in clearing the scrub, etc., off the site. The local Fire Brigade had a meeting on Wednesday evening, at which it was decided to have a formal opening of the new fire brigade station on Wednesday next. Invitations are to be sent to the Mayor and Councillors, and several visitors are expected. The monthly meeting of the school committee took place on Thursday, at which it was decided to again call the Education Board’s attention to the need for some alterations.
