WINTON.

The annual meeting of the A. and P. Association was held last Saturday—Mr D. King, President, in the chair. The attendance was very satisfactory. The balance - sheet showed the total receipts to be £lB6 18s 4d, and the expenditure £l5O

5s 2d, leaving a credit balance of £36 13s 2d. This, with moneys owing, will bring it up to £4O. The President, in moving the adoption of the balance-sheet, reviewed the business considered during the year, namely, noxious weeds ; the winter show, which was very successfully carried out, and the desirability of holding a stock show, which was, in his opinion, wrongly initiated, and he hoped the question would again come up and the show be held this year. Immense benefit had -been conferred on farmers and others by means of supplies of poisoned wheat for the destruction of small birds. The President also referred to the debate on the amending of the Charitable Aid Act, so that all charitable aid requirements could be taken from the Consolidated Fund ; and finally he thanked his brother officers and members for the assistance given him during the year, and impressed upon all the desirability of regular attendance at the meetings. Mr Coster seconded the motion, and it was carried unanimously. The election of officebearers resulted in the return of the following, viz., President, Mr D. King (re-elected) ; Vice-President, Mr John Thomson ; Treasurer, Mr W. Keith (re-elected) ; Secretary, Mr M. O’Brien (re-elected) ; Auditors, Messrs A. Liddell and W, Russell. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the office-bearers for their services in advancing the interests of the Association and district. The sum of £8 12s fid was passed for payment. Nine candidates were proposed for membership. This gives the Association close on 100 members.

Ifc would be a good thing if our local governing body got our big ditches, six and eight feet deep, filled in, as at present they are dangerous to the public as well as being an eyesore. Within the last fortnight Messrs Taylor and Agnew lost a valuable horse in one of these drains.
