DRILL FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN.

“ THEIR CARRIAGE ABOMINABLE.” At the last meeting of the Southland Education Board, the inspectors recommended an amalgamation of city and suburban schools in the matter of drill. The suggestion was heartily approved, and it was resolved that a copy of the report be sent to the Minister of Education, and that he be asked what assistance the Government would give in the matter ; the inspectors’ letter to be reported on by a special committee within two months, Mr Mac Gibbon said it was painful to see the miserable gait of many of their young fellows —and of the girls, too, for that matter. Their carriage was something abominable. Many of their youngsters did not recognise the flag under which they lived, and be thought an ensign should be provided for each corps. —Mr George said they had such corps in Wanganui, and they should obtain information.
