Kindness in ourselves is the honey that blunts the sting of unkindness in anot her.—Landor.
A man in the right, with Grod by his side, is in the majority though he be alone. —H. W. Beecher. The fact that deer forests are one of the best paying forms of .invest*ment in the Highlands has raturally led to the extension of tracts to enable the sport of deer stalking to be pursued by those fortunate enough to afford it. On the Island of Mail, a large sheep track at Knock has been cleared of stock and converted into a deer forest. Invernessshire, however, is the chief scene of the forest extension, and on the estate of Ardnamuchan, an immense extent of land embracing three farms, - and capable of carryii g three thousand sheep, has been fenced off preparatory to being stocked by the antlered lords of the foiest. While the sheep farmers are indignant at these changes the crofter. and ordinary native population regard them with indifference, if not with favour, as sportsmen they find give them more employment and scatter more money than sheep-farmers.
