Christchurch, Jan, 12,
Fat Cattle—Steers, per head, ran from L 4 15s to L 7 15s ; heifers, L 3 10s to L 5 12s fid ; and cows, from L 3 to L 4 15s.
Fat Sheep—Between 25c0 and 3000 penned, the bulk of which were very fair ewes, there being less old sheep in proportion to yarding than has been the case lately. Freezing wethers brought 10s to 11s fid ; medium sorts, 8s fid to 9s fid ; good young ewes, 7s fid to 9s, and up to 9s lid for an extra good line ; medium do, 7s to 8s ; aged sorts, 3s to 5s ; merino wethers in the wool, 9s 9d and 10s ; do shorn, good, 5s 41 to 7s 9d, and inferior 2s 3d to 3s ; merino ewes, 2s to 4s 3d. Fat Lambs—Of the (1327 which were in this class not many more than 1000 will find their way to the factories, and the bulk of those sold were taken by graziers. Although all classes were easier, best were only slightly so ; while medium sorts showed a decline of Is fid to 2sp-r head, and stores were hard to quit at any price. Freezing quality, 9s fid to 11s fid (the latter price being an exception); medium lambs, 7s to 8s fid ; and stores from 3s lOd to fis. Pigs—A largo entry of pigs, and all classes much easier, with a drop of 2s 6 1 to 5i per head. Baconers ran from 3£d to 3|d per lb, and porkers at 3fd. Bacon pigs per head were 32s fid to 45s ; porkers, 2Js to 2Js fil ; and stores, 10s fid to 20s.
