LOCAL NOTES.
The committee of the Invercargill' Ojcling Club have shown a very fair spirit in dealing with the programme • for the annual race meeting on Christmas Day. Over £SO is to be given in prizes, and the A (amateur) and B (cash) riders have been treated very fairly in apportioning the prize > money. One special feature of the ■ meeting will be the two mile wheel i race for B riders, in which it is . expected riders from as far north as i Christchurch will compete. The amount allotted for this event is £ls. There are three mile championship races for both classes of riders, and an inter-club race (five miles) for which each club may enter one competitor. The programme as . issued isiof course subject to addition, and probably the committee will see-
"Iheir way to introduce at least one -event in which those who are not what may be called ‘ racing men ’ ■may take part.
What about the married men’s race ? That item created great interest at the last gathering, and al.vays draws a good field of competitors.
Mr E. Carter’s resignation as joint secretary was accepted with regret by the I.C.C. and A. Club, and Mr. E. Norton takes the whole responsibility of the office. On Wednesday next a road race from Invercargill Post Office to Wright’s Bush and back to Wallacetown Junction will take place, medals being given as prizes. If the afternoon is fine there will, no doubt, be a good turn out of cyclists at the Junction to see the finish, shortly before 4 p.m.
