Musical Notes.

(Bt “ Staccato.”) BURNS’ CLUB SOCIAL This Club held its monthly gathering on Monday evening, when an interesting and varied programme was submitted. The principal item of the evening (from a literary point of view) was a paper on ‘ Hogg ’ by Mr W. Macalister. I shall, however, only deal with the musical portion of the entertainment. The overture was played by Mr Blue’s String Band, and went crisply from start to finish. Miss McGregor, who made her first appearance at the Club’s meetings sang ‘ The \]Elose of Allandale,’ and except for occasional faulty intonation, gave a fairly good interpretation. Miss Murray, gave Jockie’s Far Awa ’ with considerable taste and expression. Mrs Blue (who was in good voice) contributed ‘ Here’s a Health, Bonnie Scotland to Thee,’ and in reponse to a recall gave the ‘ Scottish Emigrant,’ both of which were sung with due regard to expression and articulation. Mr Donnelly gave a fair rendering of the humorous song ‘ Come under my Plaidie,’ but as he has not acquired the correct notation of the song the accompanist and he were frequently at variance. Mr P. B. Blue, who is not entirely new to the Burns Club, sang ‘ Wae’s me for Prince Charlie ’ with considerable taste and expression, and although the song is not one in which his voice shows to the best ad vantage, he nevertheless gave evidence that he is improving in his studies. The accompaniments were skilfully played by Mesdaraes Blue and Gilmour. The meeting closed with ‘Auld Lang Syne.’
