SOUTHLAND MARKETS

Wright, Stephenson and Co report as follows for the week ending 21st May : On Tuesday, 19th inst., we held our usual fortnightly stock sale at Gore. About 3,000 sheep were entered, and there was a fair demand right through the sale. All good lines were well competed for, and prices all round were distinctly in advance of those of the jjrevious sale. Store wethers brought 7s 9d to 9s lOd ; ewes, 2s 6d for boilers, and 6s 6d to (is 9d for good sorts. Lambs brought from 4s 6d for small, to 8s 4d for extra good. We yarded and sold a line of full-mouthed half-bred ewes at 3s lOd, and a choice lot of crossbred wethers at 11s 9d. There was a fair entry of cattle, but very little demand, and most of those offered had to be turned out. Private sales.— Privately during the week we have sold at satisfactory figures a line of crossbred ewes, and 1,000 prime freeaing wethers.
