DUNEDIN MARKETS.
The markets are thus reported on for th e week ending Bth inst. : Fat Cattle —187 head yarded. The supply, although an average one, proved more than sufficient for the demand, and prices were lower than last week. Best bullocks sold at £7 to £9 2s 6d ; medium, £5 to £6 10s ; cows and heifers, £5 to £7 7s 6d. Fat Sheep—lß93 were yarded. The demand was not a keen one, but all really prime freezers found buyers at equal to last week’s prices. Medium quality were a shade lower. -Prime wethers and maiden ewes, 11s to 13s ; medium to good ewes and wethers, 6s 9d to 10s 3d ; ordinary, 5s 6d to 7s 6d. ,n!ma.3 Sheepskins—The recent wooF news from London helps to keep these in good demand, and catalogues are quickly cleared at good prices. Grain. —Wheat is only coming forward so far in small quantities, which helps to keep late prices firm, and all offering is readily placed at quotations. Velvet is rather scarce, and as this class of wheat is wanted for mixing purposes, present, value h likely to be well maintained. Quotations are ; Prime velvet, 3s 7d to 3s 8d ; prime Tuscan, &c., 3s 5d to 3s 6d ; good, 3s 3d to 3s 4d£ ; fowl wheat, 2s lOd to 3s 2£d. Oats are coming to hand freely, and as a result prices have declined ld;to l£d. Shippers having few orders to fulfil are cautious in buying, and speculators have not yet begun to operate. Quotations :j Prime feed and milling, Is to Is 7d ; good, Is s£d to Is 6d. Potatoes are in short supply, with 'a fair demand, and all lots offering are readi’y placed at quotations. Prime Derwents, 55b» to 57s 6d ; good do, 50 to 52s 6d ; kidneys, 40s to 47s 6d. Chaff has also been scarce during the past week, and prices are firmer; but these depend so much on the supply from week to week that present quotations may be upset at any moment. Meantime values are—for prime 52s 6d to 555, good 50s. Ryegrass.—The first rush has passed, and business is now on a moderate scale with slow demand. Quotations : Prime extra heavy and well dressed old pasture lots are worth 3s 6d to 3s 10s; medium to good parcels, 3s to 3s sd; undressed, 2s to 2s 9d according to quality.
