Cricket.

Any dispute that may arise in reference to points in the game w ill be deferred to our Cricket Editor. The reply will be made in the next issue if received by mid-day on Thursday of each week. CRICKET CHATTER. (By The Englishman.) 'v 4 Another week will see the cricket season out, and a very unsuccessful one it’ has been. Owing to the inclemency of the weather several matches were abandoned. It would be better if the Association arranged fewer matches. There is nothing in these one-day matches. It is far better to make a two. days’ match of it. Two or three off days should be set apart for the completion of any unfinished games. In other places if a two or days’ match is fixed, and not .completed they have these off days to fall back updn for its completion, and why should it not be so here ? The match between the I.C.C B and Star A teams did not eventuate last Wednesday week, owing to some misunderstanding about the ground. According to fixture it should have come off on the former’s ground, but a notice to the contrary appeared in the morning paper of that day, notifying players that it would be played on the latter’s ground, consequently only half a day’s notice was given, and of course it fell through. The Pro. had a splendid wicket prepared for the match. Several of the I.C.C. and Star players assembled on the former’s ground and a practice match was played. Some high scoring was made; out of ten wickets 241 runs were registered, of which Burnes knocked up 101 in a little over two hours, which is the first individual century made here for some years. 'The Pro. terminated his engagement with the Invercargill Club last Saturday. During his term much benefit has been derived by local players. On Saturday and Monday two interesting matches may be looked for. The Waikaia and Arrowites meet on Saturday. The .wirner ot this match will play the Invercargill B off for the Association’s Cup on Easter Monday. Given good weather and fast wickets there ought to be a capital display of cricket.
