SOUTHLAND MARKETS.

Andrew White and Co. report having held their fortnightly stock sale at the Invercargill yards on Tuesday. There was a rather small attendance of buyers, but all the pens were filled and prices showed some improvement. There was a better enquiry for store sheep, and nearly all forward found a market. Following are the prices realised:— Fat Cattle—Bullocks, prime, L 8 to L 9 5s ; medium quality, L 6 to L 6 10s ; cows, L 4 10s to L 5 ; heifers, L 5 to L 5 7s 6d. Fat sheep—Wethers, 10s 4d to 10s 6d ; ewes, 7s 6d to 9s 3d; lambs, 8s lOd to 10s. Store Sheep—Wethers, 4-tooth, 8s 9d; 2tooth, 7s 6d to 8s ; lambs, 3s 4d for culls, to 6s 3d for good lots ; ewes (very old), 2s 6d others, 6s 3d to 7s. *

The attendance was fair for the season of the year, and bidding brisk for best quality of sheep and cattle. ; Best bullocks brought L 9 5s to L 7 17s 6d ; best cows, L 7 10s to L 6 15s; medium and; small, L 4 12s 6d to L 5 10s Store Cattle were dull of sale, and being in small lots prevented outside buyers from operating. Those sold realised :—Calves, 15s to 255; yearlings, 30s to 455; old cows (of which a goodly number were forward), 30s to 70s; store steers, L 3 to L 4 10s. Sheep—Best fat wethers, 10s 6d ; medium and small, 7s 6d to 8s 6d ; ewes (of which a larjie proportion of the fat were made up), from 6s 6d to 9s ; fat lambs, 8s 9d to 10s 2d; stores, 6s to 4s 6d. Store sheep were dull of sale, and only at low prices could business be done. Horse Sale —On Saturday we had the usual fair entry as regards numbers, but the quality was very poor. Best draughts brought Ll 6 to LlB ; inferior, L 8 to Ll 4; hacks, from L 5 to Ll2 for best; old and inferior almost unsaleable.
