USES FOR SAWDUST
MANY NOVELTIES. Wo6d flour, or wood meal, is useful, but not as a food. Made from sawmill waste, which was one of the problems of the wood manufacture, It is extensively employed in the manufacture of linoleum, dynamite, dolls, phonograph records, and radio dials. Novel uses for it will be demonstrated at the Sesquicentennial Exposition by the National Committee on Wood Utilisation appointed by President Coolidge. There will also be exhibited fabrics made from wood, sucli as rayon, which is so widely used as a substitute for silk., The manufacturer as well as the consumer will be interested in the improved crate designs, which effect & reduction in weight and the amount of material required in manufacture without the sacrifice of strength. Pine stumps which yield turpentine, pine oils, and resin, and end-match lumber, which make possible a 100 per cent, utilisation, are to be shown. Specimens showing the value of short lengths and odd dimensions In lumber which have not heretofore been extensively marketable; knotty board panels for use where the beauty of the grain of the wood is requisite; new uses l'or blue stained lumber which has not found a ready sale on account of its appearance, but which is satisfactory as far as strength aryl durability is concerned, are to be on view together, with end matched pine flooring and a model of French piling system which reduces handling charges 4 per cent. Wood preservation processes for lengthening the life of manufactured wood, which are just beginning to receive more general attention, will be shown.
