CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

EXECUTIVE TO RESIGN. Tiie ■ monthly executive meeting of tbe Shannon Chamber of Commerce was field last evening. Present: Mr R. E. Tippler (president) and Messrs Tiiwaites, Hyde and Franks. in referring to the small attendance Mr Hyde said that for some time the attendance at meetings had become smaller and smaller aud little interest was being shown. . There was plenty to do, but there was no enthusiasm. lie said he thought this was partly due to members themselves not putting enough kick into the work. Perhaps it was because they could not spare the time or that notices .ol meetings were not being sent out regularly. 1 Mr Tiiwaites said that on one .occasion that he, knew of the secretary had sent out 40 notices, but there had not been enough members turn up to form a quorum. He said that as a protest to the lack of interest being shown in the Chamber by members he would move “that the Executive resign in a body and that a meeting be called for ‘Thursday, November 19th, to consider the position and reconstruction of the Chamber.” Mr Hyde, in seconding the motion, said it was quite apparent that it was tirjfic such a step should be taken. It was only fair Unit the Executive should, resign and allow themselves To be replaced if members wish them to do so. He said the trouble is that tn o many members leave it to other members to carry on; It was tbe duty of every member to- endeavour to bring forward sorpething that would be of benefit to the town and district. He contended it would be belter to star! over again, otherwise under the existing position the Chamber will drift out of existence. It was no use having sixty members and fifty-nine staying home. He pointed oui' the great benefit a Chamber was to the district. The motion was then put to the meeting, and carried, and it was resolved to adjourn the meeting until Thursday, November 19th, when all members are requested to attend.
