Saying tbe right thins' at the right moment does not involve a fund of •ocial small-talk; it is the result of a kindly personality, a desire to be pleasant to everybody, and a ready courtesy which never flags. The woman who earns such an enviable reputation (says a writer in an exchange) does not do it with gush, ’out expresses her appreciation and nraise with frank sincerity. She is quick to . tender her thanks, however small the service rendered, and when she. makes a gift, she has somethingpretty and gracious to say which enhances its value.
