On Wednesday a. man was charged at the local Court with being drunk on the train and refusing to pay his fare between Tpkomaru and Shannon. He was tinted hi. in default 48 hour’s’, on each charge and ordered to pay train fare and one witness’s expenses.
Those who attended the fortnightly euchre and dance held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening spent a most pleasant, evening. In the: ladies’ section of tlie euchre tournament Mesdatries Merwood and W, Easton and Mis's M. Gray tied, the former winning the cut. Miss Aim won the consolation prize, in the gents’ Mr Hensinan wn.s the winner and Mr McKechnie secured the consolation award.
At a meeting of the executive of the Balepayers’ Association last night it was decided to. write Mr Bovis stating lire Association would give its full support, to the local sports bodies in assisting in: the formation, of .a Domain Board and anything in connection with the improvement of the Recrea-. lion Ground.
There was a, very large attendance at, Ihe first, of the “Cheerio Afternoon Socials" on Wednesday and a very pleasant, afternoon was spent. The competition—guies,sing the originals of the shadowgraphs—was won by Mrs T. Moynihan, and the tabling competition by Miss F. King. The big attract ion of the lucky envelopes was a hand-crocheted cotton juniper made and presented by Mi's Laurvig, and was also won by Mrs T. Moynihan'. The beauliful doll which; has been dressed by Mrs and Miss! Merwood, was a, great ait rad,ion and Ithe jumble slall, which was full of useful articles, did. a roaring trade. Musical items by Klsie Mellor, Vera Aim| Josie and Freda Thompson, Joan Boyi's, Lionel Merwood, Miss Merwood land Mrs Bovis, were greatly enjoyed by all. Miss Merwood was in charge of a competition which kept thei children amused, and a, very nice aijernooix tea was provided. Mr W.. Qu&rric acted a.s mabler of ceremonies. The secretary expects to show a, credit of £6 10s.
