SHOOTING.

The Port Guards fired off their third volley-firing match on Wednesday night, for a first prize given by the company, and a second given by Mr Littlejohn. About 40 members competed. The shooting was at decided improvement on the previous volley-firing match at 400yds, Colour-Ser-geant Stephen getting on the record score of 48 out of 50 from scratch As members fired by word of command, this is a fine performance. Corporal Stevens wins the second prize. The conditions were 10 shots at 400yds.

The Timaru Rifles mustered yesterday afternoon on the range, to take part in the Government volley firing. The parade was under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Bailey, with Sergeant-Major Jones as assistant. Three sections fired. No. 1 section averaging 18.75; No. 2, 18.38; and No. 3, 20.83 ; 45 men firing and the average being 19.20. This is very good. The casuals have yet to fire.
