LICENSING MATTERS. NAPIER, November The Wesleyan District Synod last night adopted a petition protesting against the introduction of licenses into the King Country, urging Parliament to reject certain proposals in the Licensing Acts Amendment Bill, 1900, and further urging that such drastic changes us are referred to should

not be made till the people had considered them and pronounced upon them at the next general election.

The value of exports from Napier for the quarter ended September 30th, was £89,557, an increase of no less than £47,887 over the receipts in the corresponding quarter last year. The principal increases are in mutton and beef, the figures being; Mutton, 1899, £2437; 1900. £24,812; beef, 1899, £8300; 1900, £21,940.

MONSTER SCHOOL GATHERING. CHRISTCHURCH, November 29.

To-day at Lancaster Park there is a great gathering from all the schools in North Canterbury, the occasion being the first, Public Schools Amateur Athletic Association’s sports, at which about 1500 children are competing. The gathering promises to be most successful, and the weatheij is perfect. DISHONEST BANK CLERK. Adam Oliver was charged at Court this morning with the theft of £960 from the National Bank, Avhere he was teller. A remand was granted till Tuesday. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £IOO each, and a personal bond’ of £IOO.
