AN UNWELCOME VISITOR. BRUSSELS, November 25. The King of the Belgians has informed the Duke of Orleans that his projected visit here is unwelcome.
POISONOUS BEER. LONDON, November 25,
Three hundred persons in Mariththiev are suffering from the effects of beer which was made by hops which hud undergone a peculiar chemical bleaching pioducing arsenic.
Received 0.52 a.m., November 27th. LORD HOPETOUN. COLOMBO, November 26. Lord Hopetoun has arrived here. He was carried ashore, and is the guest of Sir West Ridgeway, Governor of Ceylon, during his stay. Major Philson, the medical attendant, states that Lord Hopetoun’s condition was serious when he left Bombay, but that, the voyage has improved him, though he is still weak. Received 0.52 a.m., November 27th.
NATAL AND THE COMMONWEALTH. DURBAN, November 26. The Natal Government will send a Minister to Sydney to represent them at the Commonwealth celebrations.
SPEECH BY THE PRESIDENT. WASHINGTON, November 26. President McKinley, speaking at Philadelphia, said that his re-election implied an endorsement of the gold standard, the open door for China and American sovereignty in the Philipines.
