Borough Council,
The monthly meeting of the Temuka Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening. Present- Councillors Henry, Frew, . Comer,, Lse, Carr,, and Buxton. Councillor was elected chairman jduring.the absence.of the Mayor, Mr J. T. M. Hayhurst. On taking the chair he thanked members for the honour done him, and trusted that they would be able to work in harmony with him.
Correspondence was read as follows: — From the Treasury Department, noti- ' fying particulars to be complied with in connection with audit of Domain accounts.—The clerk had attended to this. From the Patriotic Fond Committee, Christchurch, asking the Council to cooperate in raising funds.—A public meeting is to be called. From the'Public Works Department, advising that plans for the new postoffice are, in course of preparation, and tenders'would be called for shortly. From the Geraldine County Council, notifying that the joint share of contribution.of Arewhenua and Temuka Town Boards now tbe borough, amounts to £1517a 3d and was overdue. From Dr J. 8. Hayes and. Dr Sir Wm. Blnnden, reporting cases of croup and diphtheria. From. Mr J. Mundell directing attention to the ba d state of the footpath leadhis yards.—. Received. From the Valuation Department, notifying , changes that can be made in the ; roll id respect to. applications made by Mr Henry Lee and Messrs Windelken and 1 Stewart; From the postmaster, Temuka, notifying that, the letter delivery will be extended to both sides of Murray. street . but the delivery of telegrams will still be confined to the one mile radios. Two tenders .were received lor advertising, and one accepted. Ten applications were received for the position of surfaceman, and that of Mr J. McAuliffe was accepted. The report of the secretary of the fire brigade upon depths of wells was received. . , , Mr F. Franks’ 1 , offer to rent the Aro- : whenua office at 3s per week was accepted,’ he to receive linoleum on tbo floor if be executes certain repairs to the pump. , , „ The overseer was requested to report on an application made for improvements to the foot-bridge on Studholme street. Only one account was passed for payment, the funds available being only £l9, with a pay sheet of £69. It was agreed that the chairman make some arrangement with the bank, and report to a meeting to be held in a week from date. The Council then rose.
