Per Press Association. Napier Fish in Wellington. WELLINGTON, February 3. The Railway Department have agreed to place cool cars on the line for the conveyance of fi h from Napier, as it is found that insulated cars allow the contents to deteriorate. The Minister has also promised to see if the charge for returned empties could not be reduced. Mr Granby, representative of the Napier Trawling Company, assured the Minister that they had no intention of raising prices, - but merely wished to regulate them. They intended, in future, to sell fish here by weight, iabout Is 6d per 41bs for soles, or flounders, or double that quantity of schnapper, moki, etc. A New Fruit Pest The Queensland fruit ma got fly was found in in a shipment of peaches by the i Talune, and the lot was at once ordered to be burned, and instructions were were wired to other ports to keep a sharp look out against it. The fly only attacks ripening fruit, and has but, lately spread from Queensland to New South Wales. Action Against a Doctor. Among the cases set down at the civil sittings of the Supreme Court is an action for £IOOO damages against a Wellington doctor for alleged unskilful treatment. Committed for TrialThe man Clements was committed for trial for maliciously wounding the woman McKenna with a tomahawk. Personal The Rev. Mr Habens is seriously ill from paralysis, and is not expected to recover. Attempted SuicideA man named William Hamington, living at Petone, went home drunk last night, quarrelled with his family and threatened to do for them and turned the wife out. He then cut his throa* in six places, and when the police arrived accused his son of doing it. He is expected to recover. The Woman’s Franchise LeagueDUNEDIN, February 3. The Women’s Franchise League executive passed a resolution urging the Minister of Justice to institute an inquiry immediately into a miscarriage of justice arising out of the recent assault case in North-East Valley, heard before two Justices, and asking the Minister to order that assaults on woman and children fee tried only by the Resident Magistrate.
