The weather is fine but cold for the opening of the Grand National meeting. The attendance is large, and there is a considerable number of visitors from all parts. Results, First Hunters’ Hurdle Race, of 50 sovs; second horse, 10 sovs; once round and a distance. Windermere, list 91b 1 Glenore, 12st 21b 2 Jack the Flat, list 91b ... 3 All started but Piccadilly. Won by a length and a half.

Time—3min 13see. Dividend-£5 19s, Maiden Hurdle Race, of 100 sovs; second horse, 20 sovs; If mile. Penrose, lOst 81b 1 Castashore, 10st 91b 2 Hussar, lOstOlb 3

Headford, Seabreeze, St Kilda, Powder Monkey, and Ratawere scratched. A great race home between the placed horses. Penrose winning by a length. Hussar, the favourite, two lengths away.

Time—3min. 22 3-s Sec. Ladies’ Bracelet (flat) of 75 sovs; bracelet value 60 sovs for first horse; bracelet value 10 sovs for second horse; 2 miles. St. Cyr (Mr W. Stead) 1 Boccacico (Mr R, E. Harley) 2 General Wolfe (Mr Pitt) 3 Won very easily.

Dummy, 10st 31b 1 Rhino, list 51b ... ® 2 Morag, 10st 2!b 3 All started but Muscatel. Dummy went into the lead at the back of the course the last time round followed by Morag and Rhino. Thence out the race lay between the trio, and a great go in the home stretch resulted in Dummy winning by a length from Rhino, Morag a length and a half away third, Magpie fourth ten lengths off. Robin blundered and finished riderless. Huntingdon ran off and Dromedary fell. Time—7min 25sec, Dividend—£3 ss. It was a very popular victory. Tally-ho Plate Steeplechase, of 50 sovs ; second horse, 10 sovs ; about 2 miles. Dundonald 1 Rainbow 2 Dugald •• 3 Won easily by ten lengths. Kuku and Fleetwood were scratched. Time—4min 23 4-ssec. Dividend—£2 14s 6d. Enfieid Steeplechase, of 2 miles; 100 sovs. Dundonald, 10st 51b 1 Coastguard, lOst 121 b 2 St. Hiko, list 51b 3 Stanley and Powder Monkey, when leading, ran off at the last jump, leaving Dundonald to win easily. Dividend—£lo 11s 6d.
