The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2.509.000 quarters, and for the Continent 560.000 quarters. The American visible wheat supply is estimated at 93,900.000 bushels. At the wool sales best greasy merinos were in good , demand by American buyers at id above the December rates ; medium, id to $d higher ; scoured, Id higher. Crossbreds are very firm.
Melbourne, January 23. The old established firm of Webster and Co., one of the leading soft goods houses, have found it necessary to convene a meeting of their creditors in London to-morrow. The immediate cause was failure to obtain increased banking facilities which were granted in the past. The result is due more to want of confidence in Australian affairs generally, than to anything else, as the firm had borne an unsullied reputation, The principal creditor is the British Linen Bank, There are no local liabilities.
