The statement that Lord Salisbury replied to Senator Olney’s enquiries as to the destination of the new flying quadron, is officially denied. ISTHMUS OF PANAMA. W ashington, January 22. It is expected that Mr Davis’ motion with regard to the sovereign right on the Isthmus of Panama will be abandoned, as many senators who promised to vote for it have now withdrawn their support. , The London Times' New York correspondent says it is reported that the motion was officially inspired. IMPROVEMENTS. Vienna, Jannary 22. The work of blasting the iron gates on the river Danube will be completed by September next, when the largest vessels will be able to reach Vienna from the Black sea.
