Ancient Order of Foresters.

The annual meeting of the South Canterbury district was held on Friday evening at the Foresters’ Hall, Timaru. The following officers were present:—Bros. T. Harris, D.C.R. (in the chair); J. Stevenson, D.B. ; James Burford, D.T. ; W. C. Burd, D. Secy: E. H. Lough, P.0.R., District Trustee ; andW. Werry, D. Auditor. Bro. S. Mcßride, D.5.0.R., was unavoidably absent, and Bro. W. A. Osborne, P.0.R., acted in his stead. Delegates were present as follows: Court Southern Cross, Bros. C. G. Yogeler, C.R., and T. W. Pratt, P.0.R.; Court Foresters’ Pride, (Waimate), Bros. A. Bitchener and W. Coltman, P.C.Rs.; Court Progress, St. Andrews, Bro. G. Emery, P.C.R. Several P.C.Rs. and members of Court Southern Cross were also present. Lengthy correspondence was read and approved. The yearly balance-sheet and auditors’ report were presented and adopted. During the year the district has paid £64 in funeral pay for two members and two members’ wives, all from Court Southern Cross. A further sum of £lls had been placed at fixed deposit, and the total under this head was now £390. All dues had been promptly paid, with the exception of those of Court Progress, and a resolution was carried bearing on the subject. A distressing case from Waimate was reported and discussed, and although the brother had not been in the district the necessary twelve months, it was unanimously decided to deal with it in a liberal manner. Instructions were handed the trustees re fixed deposits, and the special thanks of the meeting were voted to these gentlemen, especially Bro. Lough, for the great interest they had taken in the affairs of the district. The election of district officers for the ensuing 12 months resulted as followsD.C.R., Bro. Alfred Bitchener; D.S.C.R., Bro. T. Brown; D. 8., Bro, J. McTaggart. Bro. Bitchener was duly installed by the retiring D.0.R., Bro. Harris, and afterwards returned thanks for the honour conferred upon him. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Bro, Harris for his past services, and a P.D.O.R. neckribbon was presented him by the D.C.R. The D.S.C.R. and D.B. Bros. Brown and McTaggart, will be installed at the next meeting in Waimate. Bros. T, W. Pratt and W. Werry, P.C.R.s, were re-elected auditors. Accounts amounting to £ls were passed after which the D.C.R. duly closed the Court. The district officers and delegates were afterwards entertained for an hour, some capital songs being given by Bros. Harris, Coltman, Emery, and Werry.
