The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to-day, show fche total reserve to be £17,132,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 52. Consols, 98}. Three months’ bills are discounted at 2£ per cent. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 106 ; 3} per cent, do, 97. Frozen mutton, first quality, 3£d per lb ; second quality, 3fd per lb. Lamb, first quality, 4d per lb. The New Zealand hemp market is dull. Twenty-two bales of fair quality from Wellington sold at £lB 10s per ton. Butter, Danish, 130 a per cwt; Australian and New Zealand, 124 a to 1255. New Zealond long-berried wheat, ex warehouse, weaker, at 29s 3d; South Australian wheat ex warehouse, is also weaker at 30s; Victorian, ditto™
Sugar, German beet, weaker, a t 12a 6d ; Java, flat, at 15a 9d. No. 1 beat Scotch pig iron, f.0,.b. in the Clyde, active, at 435.
