Dr Jameson reports that the Matabelea are completely broken up, and that King Lobengula with a few followers is endeavouring to escape northwards across the Zambesi, but his capture is regarded as certain. Dr Jameson declares that Major Adams’ column would have met with inevitable disaster had not the Company’s forces been sent to his assistance.
(Special to Press Association.) Received 10.15 a.m., November 24th. London, November 23. Reports have been received that Lobengula is retreating to the forest country, and that his warriors are deserting him. Mr Forbes is in pursuit with his column. Lord Ripon has received no information as to the reported defeat of Dr Jameson, and disbelieves it.
