Mr Leslie McArthur, the expert who recently arrived from Australia, speaks highly of the Pubipuhi field.

At (he first communication of the New Zealand Grand Lodge last night, Grand Master Thomson delivered an address, and hoped that the Governor’s circular to the various lodges would result beneficially, but they were already doing their best to secure unanimity. In responding to the toast of his health at the banquet, which followed, Mr Thomson said he hoped that Lord Onslow would hold the post of Grand Master next year.

NELSON, Noy. 26.

The serious illness of the Bishop of Nelson is causing some anxiety. The latest report states that although no worse he is not improving.

The Nelson regatta on Boxing Day is causing interest in boating circles. Wellington, Westport, and Blenheim will be represented.

DUNEDIN, Not. 26.

The Mayor gave an official reception to the officers of the French warship to day. At the City Council to night a letter was received from the Solicitor-General calling upon the councillors to make good the sum of £73 15s including £ll 5s reception to the Governor and £lO refund of part of a wholesale license fee and some short collections. The city solicitor gave an opinion that the first two were recoverable. The mayor offered to pay them, but the matter was referred to the finance committee, and if paid by the mayor the sum will be voted to him as salary.

The Medical Association have authorised Dr W. Brown, of Dunedin, who is at present in Germany, to interview on their behalf Dr Koch with regard to his consumption cure.
