The University cricket match began today, Wet weather had spoilt the wicket, and the scoring was poor. Oxford were all disposed of for the small score of 42 runs, and Cambridge lias lost 3 wickets for 40 runs.

THE AUSTRALIANS V. DERBYSHIRE,

The weather having cleared up at lunch lime, the players were enabled to make a start in the match Australians v. Derbyshire. The former scored 108. Murdock played a steady innings of 29, Trott 15, Gregory not out 22, and Trumble 22. Blackham is taking a rest on this occasion. The weather still remained somewhat showery, and the wicket was very soft. Spofforth took three wickets for 34 runs. The county have lost 1 wicket for 10 runs.

The following play for the Lyric Club against the Australians at Stoke :—C. J. Thornton, Lord Hawke, W. E. Roller, W. W. Reed, Stoddart, McGregor, O’Brien, Lohraann, Briggs, Peel, and Maurice Read.
