Flax Mill a-fire. WELLINGTON, Jan. 23,
A fire at Waikanae yesterday destroyed a portion of Gardner’s flax mills. No insurance.
The Squadron-
H.M.B. Lizard left for the West Coast Sounds this morning. The Orlando with the Admiral follows to-morrow. The Rapid starts for Lyttelton, the Opal for Dunedin, and the Raven for Nelson to-morrow morning.

DUNEDIN, Jan. 23,
At the Gore races yesterday Captain Cook won both the handicaps and Trapper the hurdles.
Old Bunediuite Dead-
The death is announced at Wagga of tl e wife of Mr William lienningham, one of the first pro-prietors of the Evening Star.

Private advices by mail report the successful floating of the O.P.Q, mine at Waipori for £30,003, one-third in scrip, two-thirds in cash. The Chairman of the Board is Mr E. Pontiffex. Mr B. Molloy, M.P., one of the directors, leaves for the colony next month.
