(By Telegraph.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 28. Major-General Schaw’a report on the defences of the colony will be ready in a few days. The Wellington Radical Reform Association has forwarded a protest to Government against the proposal to alter the education system of the colony. The proprietors of the 'Evening Post have received a letter on behalf of J. Martin threatening an action for libel with £2OOO damages, in respect of certain comments in regard to the late suicide of Mrs Martin at the City Hotel, unless an apology is published and costs paid. The proprietors of the paper have decided to defend the action if brought on, OAMARU, Nov. 23. At, the County Council meeting to-day, Mr Duncan Sutherland was re-appointed chairman. DUNEDIN, Nov. 23. The hospitaHrustees have decided to erect a new operating theatre in connection with the hospital at a cost of £1516. The matter of appointing a new house surgeon, for which post applications had been invited, was postponed.
