Timaru Borough Council.
A special meeting of the above Council was held last evening. Present— His Worship the Mayor (Mr John Jackson), Crs. Sutter, W. Hall-Jones, Hill, Penrose, Delaney, Bruce, Bush, Crawford, and Bennett.
Or Bush having made a personal explanation in regard to Lis motion on Monday re Messrs Perry and Perry's letter on the .ewer question, His Worship said that the object of the present meeting was to chose a representative of the Council to sit ou the
HOSPITAL AND CHAHITABLE AID BOAED. Cr Sutter movfd—“ That Hia Worship the Mayor, Mr John Jackson, be elected the repri seMtntivH of the Borough of Timaru on Uio Souh Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.” He spoke at length concerning the dispute between the Board and the Waimate City Council and characterised the decision arrived at by the Commission as iniquitous. Mr Jackson, know ing as be did the intricacies of this question, should certainly be chosen as their representative,and on thesegrounds he (Cr Sutter) advocated hia election. Cr Hill seconded the motion. His Worship thanked the Councillors for the opinion they had expressed but lie thought there were reasons’? why the incoming Mayor should be elected. Cr Bruce moved as an amendment and Or Delaney seconded—“ That the Mayor elect be the representative of tho boroogb on the Charitable Aid Board," After some farther discussion, the motion was carried by six votes to three, and His Worship returned thanks to the Connell for electing him. RESIGNATION. Or W. Jones wrote resigning his seat in the Council. Cr Hill moved and Cr Hall-Jones seconded—“ That the resignation of Or William Jones be accepted, and that the present councillors record their appreciation of his courteous conduct in the past as a fellow-councillor and wish him every success in his new avocation."
Other Ora having spoken in terms of high praise of Or Jones, the motion was carried and the Town Clerk instructed to take steps to fill np the vacancy.
AN ERROR. Mr R. Calvert wrote to the effect that he had made a mistake in estimating the cost of forming the cliff road and asking permission to withdraw his tender.
It was decided to call for new tenders for the work.
The Council then adjourned.
