THIS DAY. Wrestling ChampionshipWanganui, Sept. 4. Hudson, the bolder of the Otago Caledonian Society’s Belt for westling, has accepted Dunn’s challenge for any sum from £SO to £2OO. He says he has not received an official communication from the secretary to the Society, and knows nothing except from Press telegrams. He will leave Wellington on the Bth September with his trainer.
An Exorbitant Claim. Wellington, Sept 4, J. C. Crawford has sent in a claim of £31,000 for 245 acres of land at Points Baawell and Fort Reliance taken for defence purposes, The land is very steep along the sooth side of the harbor and commonly supposed to be of small value. Mr KennyMr Kenny has accepted a seat on the Commission to enquire into the claim of old soldiers, which will be signed on Monday, EireA firs at 4 a.m. 1 to-day destroyed a small store in Sussex Square, belonging to P. Lioheschinde. The stock was insored in the New Zealand office for £l5O, and the building for £2OO. It is probable that some of the contents, in the shape of plate-ware may be found little injured. Electoral. Dunedin, Sept. 4, Captain Baldwin contests the seat for Dunedin Central. The names of Messrs Dick, Bracken, and Hutchison, are also mentioned.
