(Before J. Beswick Esq., R.M. and E. G. Stericker, Esq ) DRUNKENNESS. James Scott, aliat David Gray, alias John Stewart, alias James McEillop, against whom thirteen previous convictions were recorded, was sent to gaol for one calendar month with hard labor. VAGRANCY. John McCimesky alias John Hall, charged on the information of the police, with having no visible lawful means of support, was sent to gool for one month with hard labor. ASSAULTING A WIFE. William Stevens was charged with unlawfully and violently assaulting his wife, Mary Ann, on 26th inst, The woman was unable to attend and Dr Hogg subsequently entering testified that she was not yet fit to appear, being considerably braised. The weapon alleged to have been used in the infliction of the “punishment” was in Court, and consisted of a piece of timber about four feet long, two inches broad, and an inch and a half in thickneas. ~ , , Defendant said ho would not have committed tho assault but that he was drunk. • The case was not gone into in the absence of the prosecutrix and Stevens was remanded to June 4th, bail being allowed in two sureties of £25 each.
