[By Telegraph. J Christchurch, July 10. Mr S. P. Andrews has retired from the Stanmore contest. A meeting of the unemployed was held in Cathedral Square to-day, when resolutions were passed, protesting against Government offering married men with families only 4s 6d per day for work op country, and offering to ■accept 6s per day. A cable message has been received vto*day from Mr J. L. Cotter, endorsing the action of bis friends in proposing Ihim as a candidate for Heathcote. He asys he expects to arrive in Christchurch on Tuesday next.
