AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Committee was held this afternoon, Mr A. W. Wright in the Chair, Fourteen members were present^ FINANCIAL The report and balance-sheet were laid on the table. It appeared that the receipts bad been £6325, and the expenditure (approximate) about £6OO. The Association was thus left much in the same position as last year, viz., with an overdraft of £SOO. The matter having been discussed very folly, Mr McLaren proposed, and Mr R. R. Pitt seconded—“ That tbe outlying Committee guarantee £IOO prize money for next year’s show, pro rata." Mr Elworthy spoke strongly in favor of the Committee making some effort to reduce tbe continual load of debt with which the Society was saddled. Mr Ford concurred, but he thought money might be collected by a eystematic canvass outside. Some members were in favor of raising the £IOO by a contribution from tbe Committee, but thought it ought to be used for prizes, not placed against the liabilities.
The motion on being put was lost by a large majority. Mr McKerrow moved and Mr Hardie seconded—" That a Committee be appointed to take into consideration the question of reducing tbe liability at present existing, and bring up a report |o next meeting—such Committee to include the President, Messrs McLaren, Moody, Elworthy, Ford and Talbot.” The motion was lost. BBAPEB AND BINDEE COMPETITION.
Mr Elworthy brought forward this matter, and remarked that be thought it would be well to arrange for the competition at an early date. After discussion, it was moved by Mr Moody, seconded by Mr Henry Ford, and carried —“ That Messrs McKerrow, Aplin, J. Campbell, and W. Stevenson bo appointed a Committee to make arrangements for the Keaper and Binder contest, and to arrange as to who shall be judges.” Mr Henry Ford gave notice of his intention to move at the general meeting of the Association in March—“ That a Committee be appointed to canvass the country between the Rangitata and Waitaki, with a view of raising £l5O to be given in prizes at the Show of 1884, to be given as the Managing Committee may direct.” The meeting then adjourned.
