PUBLIC SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT.

A final rehearsal of the programme of this evening’s entertainment was held last night in the Theatre Royal. The performers, musical, elocutionary and dramatic formed quite a little army ; and several of the teachers were present to assist and preserve order. An attentive observation of the proceedings of last evening convinced the privileged few, who were present in the capacity of lookers-on, that a treat is in store for the audience this evening. Every performer was letter-perfect in his or her part, fall of enthusiasm and there was no occasion for prompting. This accuracy, and freedom from awkward mannerisms, confusion or stilted style, showed that no pains had been spared to bring the youngsters “ up to the mark.” Mr Stone, a member of the School Committee, has been indefatigable in his labors, and a great deal of the success achieved, is due to his judicious and watchful management. Mrs Graham has been the unwearied guiding spirit throughout, and has inspired everyone about her with her own enthusiasm. The Side School is pleasingly represented by a detachment under Mrs Nelson, who evidently has exceptional qualifications as a disciplinarian of little children. A very pleasant evening was spent, and no doubt those who attend to-night will heartily concur with us in that opinion.
