The forces under Hicks Pasha when the campaign against the rebels opened sometime back, consisted of 8600 infantry, 1400 cavalry and four batteries of artillery. It is not definitely known how many men were directly operating against the enemy prior to the recent defeat, bat it is supposed that fully 5000 men were actually engaged in the battle, which resulted in the annihilatjon of General Hick’s force.
