OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SHOW.
At this show yesterday in shorthorn cattle, Mr Menlove took first prize for the best bull of any age with Fifth Duke of Alvie, Mr Grant being second with Earl Brunswick 111. Mr Menlove also won the special prizes for the cow and the best |bull of any age, the first with Duchess of Derrimut, and the latter with Fifth Duke of Alvie. In Ayrshires, Messrs A. and J. McFarlane carried off twenty out of the thirty-six awards, including the special prizes for the best cow and best bull on the ground; the first with Killoch (imported) and the latter with Teviot. In merino sheep Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. are the principal prizetakers. There were no entries from the Hon. R. Campbell and Sons. Mr A, McMaster and Mr Teschemaker were the only other competitors in merinos. Mr McMaster took the champion prize for the best ram of any ago; also for the best ewe. In Leicesters the N.Z. and A. Land Company and Mr James Allan were the principal exhibitors. The champion prize for rams was taken by the Company, and for ewes by Messrs McKecher Bros., of Invercargill. There were no exhibits in the Romney Marsh class. Mr John Reid took the special prize, a 20-guinoa Cup, presented by the N.Z.L. and M.A. Co., for the 10 best sheep suitable for refrigerating purposes. In Implements, Messrs Reid and Gray took the great proportion of prizes. The only prize taken from Christchurch was by the firm of Andrews and Bevan, who took a prize for a chaffcutter, beating the local exhibitors. There was a very satisfactory show of New Zealand manufactures and miscellaneous exhibits generally in barbed wire. The Oamaru and Christchurch Companies both have exhibits.
