The Wellington Reclaimed Land CaseWellington, Nov. 12, The Government replied to the remonstrances of the Wellington Harbor Board, about Government resuming possession of their reclaimed endowment, for the purposes of a printing office site. The Premier says : “ Government are not able, as the law stands, to give to the Board any compensation for the land in question, nor to assure them that an equivalent, whether in land or money, shall be given, but they believe that as a matter of policy an endowment once given to a public body, such as a Harbor Board, should not bo taken away without reasonable compensation. Government will therefore recommend Parliament next session to amend the law on the subject, so as enable this or any similar case to be dealt with on its merits.” Patalily at Nasehy. Dunedin, Nov. 10. A man named George McCliskey, has been killed at Naseby by falling from a dray.
