TIMARU WOOLLEN FACTORY.

A general meeting of the shareholders in the Factory Company was held last night in the Secretary’s office, Maclean and Stewart’s buildings. Mr A. Ormsby occupied the chair, and there was a very large attendance. The Chairman stated that the meeting had been called for the purpose of electing eight permanent directors from among the shareholders qualified to stand for the office. Before proceeding with that business, however, be would mention that up to that moment 4108 shares had been taken up, and there were more which might be counted upon as already taken up, enough to bring up the total to 5500. The Secretary added that he had taken steps to dispose of shares at Temuka, Pleasant Point, and Waimate, with very little success as yet, however. The present financial position of the Company was as follows:—£2ls 14s had been paid in the Bank, and £l2O had that day been deposited for six months at 5 per cent.

The nomination of candidates for the office of director was then proceeded with. There were duly proposed and seconded—Messrs H. B. Courtis, F. J. Noble, T. Amos, J. D. Kett, J, Hill, J. Crawford, J, E. Beckingham, J. Jackson, H. Clapham, J. McParlane, A. Ormsby, A. D. Wells, W. O’Bryan, R. Spurway, W. Gunn and W. Priest. The election was by ballot. The names of the sixteen candidates were inscribed on as many pieces of paper as there were shareholders present, and Mr Stubbs, secretary, acting as Returning officer, marked in the corner of each slip the number of votes to which the shareholder holding it was entitled. The shareholder then erased the names of all he did not wish to vote for, and distributed his votes among the remainder, dropping his paper into the ballot-box. Messrs McCahon and Cuthbert were appointed scrutineers, and with Mr Stubbs, retired at 9-30 into another room for the purpose of making up the returns. The meeting was adjourned for half an-honr. On resuming, the Secretary declared the following duly elected :—Messrs H. B. Courtis, 698 votes; T. Amos, 569, J. Jackson, 529 ; W. Priest, 484 ; A. Ormsby, 411; J. Hill, 385; J. Crawford, 565 ; W. O’Bryan, 361. The meeting then terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
