Movements of the GovernorIn consequence of a heavy gule the Governor did not start for Auckland this morning. He will probably leave at 11 o’clock to-niaht. The Auctioneers Very Properly ProtestCirculars have been sent to the auctioneers throughout the colony asking them to take steps to remove the disabilities under which they suffer by the Licensing Act, 1881, and hoping that they will help to bring pressure to bear so that section 3, of clause 28, may be repealed so far as auctioneers are concerned. An Indiscreet Publican* At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Alfred Wakefield, landlord of the Bank Hotel, was charged with Sunday trading, and fined 40s and costs. Wakefield, in his evidence, contradicted the whole evidence for the prosecution, and at the conclusion of the case the Magistrate committed him to stand bis trial for perjury. Bail was allowed, himself in £IOO and two sureties of £SO each. The Illicit Still Gases. Mr Edward Shaw, of Wellington, has been retained to defend those charged with illicit distilling at Palmerston North, and leaves for that district tonight. Deaths on Board the Waihora. Dunedin, April 3. During the passage of the Waihora from Greenock (o Melbourne, Messrs Copeland and Jacob, second class passengers, died of consumption. Alexander McDonald, assistant steward, was missed on March 11, and could not be found although strict search was made for him. He had previously been suffering from debility and it is supposed he had either jumped or fallen overboard some time during the previous night.
