SERIOUS FLOOD AT GISBORNE.

[Bt •Telegraph.] Gisborne, June 9. A continuous downfall of rain since Sunday last has culminated in the severest flood that has occurred herefor some years past. The Waipapa river overflowed its hanks near Tutoto, inundating' the country between there and Eoslands. The effects of the flood at Ormond has been very severe. Bloomfield, Wylie,and Melville Smith have succeeded in driving their stock to higher ground. H. C. Baylan, who rendered important assistance in saying life at the time of the last flood, has proceeded with a boat, accompanied by a few volunteers to render assistance to out settlers in case of need.. The Arahi Bridge has, according to latest information, been washed away. This bridge was erected about 3 years ago at a cost of £2500. The timely precautions taken by* the settlers in sending their stock away has prevented a large amount of damage than would otherwise have been done. The rain is still descending without any indication of abating.
