A VALUABLE FIND.

London, July 2, One of the earliest Coptic versions of Saint John's Gospel is exhibited at the University College. It is dated 1400 and has not yet been translated, but it seems certain that it will throw an important light on Bible study by shewing how the Greek text of the Gospels was interpreted in Egypt in the fifth century. The copy was found written on about 100 leaves of papyrus, wrapped in rags, buried in a pot at the Qauel Kebir cemetery. It was apparently hastily hidden during a Moslem invasion of Egypt. The cemetery is on a great hill of rock, riddled with tombs, 30 miles south of Asyut. Nearby were fossilised human bones. Petris estimates' that the bons} are at least 50,000 years old. These bones were collected by Home, an ivory worker, and found in his studio along with ivory carvings in various stages of completion.
