Anstrallan Coco Market.
The state of the coco market, itr Australia is touched upon in a letter received by Jyljssrs. A. G. Smyth and Co. from a well-known firm in Sydney. "As far as we cau ascertain," say the writers, ."the-'market for Cocoabeans generally is in a week state. Trinidad and Accra' Beans Which are imported largely to this market Tare offered from London on the basis'of /. per. ton for the former c.i.f. Melbourne or Sydney and ...£4*l-1- to /49/-/, per ton for the latter.. Further indications ol the weak state of the market is borne out by the fact New Hebrides Beans have been sold here during the last couple of weeks as low as per ton for good quality Beans while some parcels have been disposed of at as low as per ton. We take this to be a fair indication of the Home market because French steamers have now a direct service from Noumea to Europe and if the market was more attractive they could ship Home rather than here, • We 1 ;jareiaware that these pri- : ces must involve the growers in heavy losses, but nevertheless that is the position. There is evidently a big slump in the Cocoabean trade when supplies are available .at such ridiculously low, prices.
