The Ex-Kaiser.

SUGGESTED INTERNMENT IN SAMOA. The following message, which has been widely circulated by the United Press Association' Correspondent, accompanying the, recent Parliamentary visitors, has created not /a little interest. ... . ■ » What may be regarded as one the curiosities of the ' Samban-trip is a proposal to in tern .the ex-Kaiser in Samoa. The" author ; pi this . schemje Js. Mr* JEL -J, Moors, an American'citizen, of „many years' residence His "idea is that it would relieve everyone «f trouble 4f the Kaiser (or Count Hohenzplleru, as h'e palls him) had a portion of his fortune restored, with which he Should buy.out the interests of the New Zealand Government and all others who desired to sell, c after which he could se.t ,s up business in - the islands (in Upolu for choice), where he would be far enough away and powerless for mischief. v

The^above'circumstance was dealt with by Sir James Allen at the meeting of the-citizens on March 9, in which he stressed the hope that the matter be not taken seriously. "Mercutio," of the New Zealand Herald, expresses himself thus:— * "Many novel ideas are held concerning the Kaiser?S future ,but that advanced. by a Samoan correspondent is in a class by itself. Briefly put, it is" that the Germans should give him enough money to buy out J?ew Zealand interests in Samoa, and that the Kaiser should •then'' be permitted, with the aid of such Germans as might follow him into his pleasant exile, and 100,000 indentured Javanese, to develop the island commercially. The writer professes his willingness;t6.continue.living in Sam*al#ith the Javanese and German;: gentlelben, and '<|uaintfy says that the islands would make an ideal retreat for the Kaiser. Doubtless, also for submarines 5 and Zeppelins if- the Hohenzollern \ could manage to conceal these among his imports.- The only people-this correspondent appears to overlook Sre r -the* present residents in Samoa, , European and native; ' have they done to deserve such 'company* or what indi ; cation' is there' that they would share this correspondent's quaint tastes ?"
