A Novel Performance.

Wire-Walking at Niliim. A novel exhibition is promised in connection with the children's sports at Mulinuu, In accordance with a resolution of the Children's Sports Committee, Mr. Chas. Read was approached with the request that he would contribute to the programme for the children's entertainment. This he has very kindly consented to do, with a, performance that will afford further proof of his well-known versatility. In this instance we shall have the opportunity of seeing Mr. Read in the dual capacity of tightrope walker and performer on stilts. The latter role will take the form of a comic interlude, and as the stilts he will use are eighteen feet long, probably the act will excite wonder among the juvenile audience, as well as amusement. As to the other feature of his entertainment, the designation of a tight rope walker is not strictly correct, as Mr, Read will walk on a galvanised clothes wire which is ; exactly one-eighth of an inch in diameter. On the same medium of perilous peregrination he has at giddy altitudes performed the most sensational feats. Mr, Read was prospecting around Mulinuu the other day, on the look-out, rumour says, for two cocoanut trees tall enough to carry the wire at a sufficient height! One may hope that he will not be too exacting on spectators' nerves.
