OBITUARY

MRS. H. M. LANGMAN

A highly-respected resident of the Ahuroa district, Mrs Helen Melville Langman, aged 62 years, has passed away after ailing for some considerable time. The late Mrs Langman has resided in this district for a number of years, coming originally from Southern Waikato and the King Country. Deceased's death occurred at her daughter's residence, Te Hana, and the funeral, which took place at the Kaipara Flats cemetery, was attended by many relatives and friends. The late Mrs Langman,is survived by her husband and five adult children :—Mrs J. H. Littin (Te Hana), Mrs C. G. W. Miles (Hawera), Mr J. Langman (Kaukapakapa), Trooper R. Langman (at present in Egypt), and Mr N. Langman (Ahuroa).

•ERB'S CALLED UP A martial tramp echoed outside the post office where we were patiently waiting for the weekly issue of letters, welcome and otherwise. In strode Herbert. "I'm going, blokes! Passed the doctors ! In on Monday week !" "Gosh ! Blimey ! Karoo !" from us. "Wat abaht them cows ?" queried Slim, the cautious one. "Let the missus look after them and the farm till I come back." "The missus! 'Ose missus?" asked Felix. "Me own of course !" "But yer ain't got one.!" "Plenty of time between now and next Monday tor fix that up ain't there?" We were flabbergasted, although we knew our 'Erb On Wednesday morning, after milking, 'Erb caught the train, whistling 'Gone are the Days." 'Ole Bill, who by the way, is one of the leisured class, spread the news and also calculated that 'Erb would be back by the 5 o'clock or the cows would not be milked. We rolled up in force at the station Off stepped Herbert; new suit, hat, boots, white tie and a flower in his Imtton hole, a couple of suitcases and a smile. Out stepped the bride. 'Erb always was a picker; his herd proyed that, and his genius had not failed him. What if he'd got quantity only ; what if her blue orbs did not focus ■■harmoniously; what if sylph-like grace were a sweet memory ; she looked capable and he satisfied. , Squint started to hum, .Kiss me Goodnight, Sergeant-Major," but an elbow in the right place discouraged further vocal efforts of that Kind. A round of hearty cheers, led by Felix, made the old hills echo; ' "Come round on Saturday night fellahs !" shouted 'Erb as be stepped on it and rattled off home. : And we're goiug round- -everyone of lis.
